Development and planning for the District of Tumbler Ridge is coordinated through an interdepartmental approach between Economic Development and other District departments. The objective of this approach is to help facilitate and guide the physical growth of Tumbler Ridge for the long-term well-being of the community by striving for a balance between its social, economic and environmental needs.
- This is done by advising the District Council on policies which guide physical growth and change in the community.
- Facilitating the sale of municipally-owned land for both commercial and residential development.
- Permits for construction and development procedures such as subdivisions, zoning amendments, variances and temporary commercial uses.
Ensuring adequate commercial and industrial land is important for community economic development and diversification. In Tumbler Ridge, commercial activity may be divided into two areas: Town Centre and General Commercial. The Town Centre shall be the location of commercial activities for residents and tourists whereas the General Commercial area is highway service oriented.
