Background
Tumbler Ridge was established in 1981 to support the metallurgical coal industry. Over the years, the community has faced economic fluctuations due to the boom-and-bust nature of resource industries. While mining remains a key sector, Tumbler Ridge is actively diversifying its economy through tourism, renewable energy, and outdoor recreation. The UNESCO Global Geopark designation, expansion of the community forest, and growing entrepreneurial opportunities highlight the town’s potential for sustainable growth.
Despite these advancements, challenges persist, including infrastructure needs, demographic shifts, and the remote location. The Residential Development Plan will help address these issues by guiding responsible growth and ensuring a stable housing market for the future.
Project Objectives
The Residential Development Plan aims to:
