Pets are cherished members of the family, and their well-being is important to us all. To ensure a safe and happy environment for your furry friends, it’s essential to familiarize yourself with the local bylaws and guidelines for pet ownership. Pet Licencing in Tumbler Ridge:
- All dogs and cats over the age of 6 months must be licenced with the District.
- Licences can be purchased at the Front Desk of Town Hall (305 Iles Way).
- Unlicenced pets are subject to a fine up to $150.
- All tags expire on December 31st of each year. New tags must be purchased at the beginning of the new year.
- Spayed or neutered Dog or Cat - $10.00
- Non-Spayed or neutered Dog - $50.00
- Non-Spayed or neutered Cat - $100.00
Dog Owners - Did You Know:
Dogs must be kept on a leash at all times when in a public space. Dogs found to be off leash will result in $100 fine. In addition, owners are responsible for cleaning up after their pets. Several poop bag dispensers are located throughout the community. Failure to do so will result in a $100 fine.
Any dog found at large (off leash or off private property) will be impounded and its owner will receive up to a $150 fine per occurrence. Administrative and after-hours fees may also be applied.
Cat Owners - Did You Know:
Cats are not permitted to be at large within the municipality and must remain on your property. Any cat found at large will be impounded and its owner will be fined up to $150 per occurrence. Administration and after-hour fees may also apply.
Stray (feral) cat populations are on the rise. Please spay and neuter your cats to prevent overpopulation and nuisance to the community.
Adoption Opportunities:
Occasionally, the District will adopt out animals that have not been claimed by their owners after 72 hours. Please use the Adoption Form and send to bylaw@dtr.ca or drop off to the Fire Hall.
There are no current adoption opportunities available at this time. Please visit the South Peace Branch of the BCSPCA for animals looking for their fur-ever home in our region.
