Tumbler Ridge Health Services Community Update

The District and Northern Health had been working together on a joint community update; however, Northern Health is unable to participate in this release at this time due to restrictions associated with the provincial election period. The District believes residents should continue to receive timely information about health care services in the community and is therefore sharing this update based on information from our ongoing discussions with Northern Health.
Planning for expanded emergency care access
Planning is underway to implement a virtual 24/7 emergency care model in Tumbler Ridge in the new year. The model is intended to provide greater flexibility and continuity of emergency care while responding to changes in physician availability.
Further information about how the model will operate in Tumbler Ridge will be shared as planning progresses.
Current health centre services
Emergency care and mental health supports are currently available at the Tumbler Ridge Health Centre daily from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., including weekends and holidays.
Health care services have expanded progressively over the past several months. Increased physician, locum, nursing and allied health staffing has helped provide greater stability in emergency and other health services.
The District continues to thank the staff at the Tumbler Ridge Health Centre for their ongoing dedication and commitment to supporting the community's health and well-being.
Primary care and recruitment
- Two full-time physician positions are currently posted for Tumbler Ridge.
- Two Nurse Practitioner positions have also been established through the South Peace Primary Care Network and are currently open for recruitment. Northern Health advises that these positions are intended to support both primary care and emergency department services.

- As Northern Health shares more information about the proposed 24/7 emergency care model and other health service changes, the District will continue to help share those updates with the community.
