District Will Not Proceed with Proposed Halloween Fireworks Display

The District of Tumbler Ridge and Tumbler Ridge Fire Rescue would like to thank the community for the significant response received regarding the proposed Halloween fireworks display.
Earlier this month, the District invited residents to participate in a community poll to help better understand the community’s level of comfort with holding a fireworks display this Halloween.
In asking for this feedback, the District recognized that recent events in Tumbler Ridge have affected members of our community in different ways and that loud or unexpected noises may be difficult or distressing for some individuals. The poll asked residents whether they supported a fireworks display this year and whether advance notice of the date and time would help address concerns associated with the event. The purpose of the poll was not simply to determine which position received the most responses, but to better understand the level of comfort within our community and ensure that concerns surrounding the proposed event were considered before a decision was made.
The response from the community was considerable. Many residents expressed support for continuing with the traditional fireworks display, while a significant number indicated that they would not be comfortable with the display proceeding this year.
After reviewing the community feedback, the District has made the decision not to move forward with the proposed Halloween fireworks display this year. The regularly scheduled Halloween event in the Northgate parking lot will still take place as planned, and residents and families are encouraged to come out, participate in the festivities, and celebrate Halloween together as a community.
The decision not to proceed with fireworks this year was not made lightly, nor does it represent a decision to discontinue community fireworks displays in the future. Given the considerable feedback received both in support of and expressing concern with the proposed display, the District believes that not proceeding this year is an appropriate and respectful approach.
The District would like to sincerely thank everyone who took the time to participate in the poll. The strong level of participation demonstrates the importance of providing opportunities for community input, particularly when considering activities that may affect residents differently.
We appreciate the community’s understanding and look forward to welcoming residents to the Halloween event at Northgate.
